Dark Days Ahead

How would you describe your music?

We have elements ranging from rock to death metal in our music, all bound together with a healthy splash of dark intentions. Some might call it groove metal.
Riff-driven songs with a no-bullshit-attitude.

You release debut album ”The Long Road South” May 9th (18th for rest of the world), 7 year after formed the band. Tell us something about your new album.

It’s a solid ten track, 35-minute album of heavy groove. We have been working for so many years towards the goal of releasing it and without all the lineup changes and other difficulties it would have been released much, much earlier. Hopefully the next album won’t take that long. And it wont.

You are already writing songs for the second album. How’s it preparation going? Do you already have any songs? Can we expect something different than ”The Long Road South”?

We’ve been busy making demos of the new songs and they already sound killer. I can say that there will be different stuff on the next album, but it’s not going to be a radical change when compared to The Long Road South. TLRS was a very aggressive, in-your-face kind of an album, so this will add some mellow elements and possibly a totally acoustic song. No ned to worry though, the goove and the heaviness will still be there.

For now you released only one music video “Chaos Caravan”. Are you going to making another one?

Yes, we have plans for another video for the track M.M.M. Unfortunately i can’t give you a specific release date, but we are working on it as we speak.

First Dark Days Ahead gig took place in 2010. Do you still remember it? How was it?

Yes i do. It was a show at Suistoklubi in Hämeenlinna, Finland with our friends Deadforger and Anger Cell. It was a cool gig in a sold-out small venue.

Are you planning any gigs now? Any gigs abroad Finland?

We’re putting together a few shows for this autumn and early next year, but unfortunately none outside Finland.

What inspire you to create own music?

There aren’t that many bands playing this kind of metal in Finland. All of us have also been playing our own music in different bands for over 20 years now, so it is a natural thing for us.

Dark Days Ahead go through many lineup changes. How about current lineup? Can you describe in a few words members?

Jukka Salonen – Bass
Ville Sivonen – Drums
Jarkko Petosalmi – Guitars
Jari Huttunen – Guitars
Tony Kaikkonen – Vocals

It’s a solid lineup. We can now concentrate on making the kind of music we want to and not having to worry about the lineup.

Because BloodArt is Polish website, tell me, do you know some Polish words, or bands? Have you ever been to Poland?

Bands like Vader, Behemoth, Riverside, Decapitated, Mgła, Lost Soul, Graveland and Hate come to mind. I’ve also visited Poland once, but unfortunately i was just passing through, so i didn’t have that much time to see what Poland has to offer.

What are your plans for the future?

We are already working on a new album and hope to release it in 2013.

Thank you very much for your time ! Any final words for our readers?

Keep supporting your favourite music and hope to see you all soon!
